# Documentoscopy

The detailed analysis of elements present in documents, such as signatures, handwriting, stamps, seals, and fingerprints, aims to determine the document's authenticity and identify possible tampering. This approach, known as document examination, uses SDKs to perform meticulous scans and verify the validity of identity documents (such as driver's licenses, ID cards, or passports) presented. This involves confirming whether the document is physical or displayed digitally, ensuring the full presentation with all corners visible, checking the integrity of the photograph, and analyzing the text to prevent replacements, alterations, or manipulations. In addition, during integration, high-resolution digital images of the User's Identity Document are processed on their device, generating a tamper-proof encrypted payload via the FaceSign app, ensuring security against malicious data capture.

Document examination performs the following processes during analysis:

* Validation of whether the document is physical or displayed on a digital screen;
* Confirmation of the document's full presentation, including front and back, with all four corners visible;
* Verification of the photograph to prevent replacements or manipulations, allowing detection of digital alterations to the image or physical tampering with the document.
* Text analysis to identify replacements, alterations, or manipulations.
* The ID scan evaluation by FaceTec will not return a match level if the assessment is considered incomplete.
* During the integration process, high-resolution digital images of the user's identity document are captured. These images are processed on the User's device and generate a proprietary encrypted, tamper-proof payload through our app, ensuring the inviolability of the data against malicious capture.

Some types of identity documents will result in a more confident decision between physical and digital when our AI tries to determine whether a physical identity document is present. Over time, FaceSign will continue improving at protecting against identity document counterfeiting, but it will never be foolproof.

Developers should also be aware that fake physical identity documents are abundant. On the Dark Web, hyper-realistic fake identity documents can be purchased and shipped wherever you want. They will become cheaper, even more realistic, and increasingly ubiquitous, and there are already millions being imported into many countries every year.

FaceSign's 3D Liveness and Match are assessing physical signals of a live 3D human and are much stronger than any "authenticity" signal from an Identity Document.

Given this situation, our recommendation is that, for remote confirmation of legal identity, secure collection of the user's real-time biometric data be performed. These data should be validated with support from a trusted source, such as a government ID issuer, or by a trusted third-party issuer. This validation should ensure the biometric data matches a government ID database that has also undergone verification of photographs and documents, coming from a secure and reliable data source, such as Serpro, a legal identity issuer.

FaceSign has a contract with Serpro (Brazilian Federal Government Data Processing Service) for performing Biometric Validation through Cognitive Document Validation (CDV), which goes beyond simple OCR (optical character recognition). This process employs cognitive processing capabilities, such as computer vision and artificial intelligence, to classify, identify, and extract text and photos from documents. This results in a correlation between the document image submitted for query and the document stored in the public database, guaranteeing the authenticity of the evaluated document. Currently, it is possible to validate the driver's license and soon the voter registration card will be included. In the case of the national ID (RG), we maintain a contract with Dimensa, which generates a document authenticity score, ensuring that the document is genuine and valid.
